Dr. Laura Barczewski, a physician at St. Elizabeth Physicians in Northern Kentucky, has been recognized for her decision to donate a kidney to a child she did not know. The act began after Dr. Barczewski saw a sign in Fort Thomas indicating that a child needed a kidney donor.
Although she was not compatible with the specific child mentioned on the sign, Dr. Barczewski proceeded to donate her kidney to another child who was in need of an organ transplant.
