Boone County, Kentucky has declared a Level One Snow Emergency starting Tuesday, January 7 at 3 p.m. This status indicates that roads are hazardous due to blowing or drifting snow and may also be icy. Residents are advised to exercise caution while driving and to stay home if possible.

Robert Franxman, PE, Boone County Assistant Administrator/County Engineer, stated, “Crews are back out clearing and treating side roads and culs-de-sac today. We plan to have most county roadways cleared by this evening.” He acknowledged the challenges posed by the duration of the snowstorm and the amount of accumulation in reaching all 1,000 lane miles of county roads. Franxman expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding.

The emergency does not restrict travel to and from work; however, citizens should contact their employers regarding reporting requirements. The Level One Snow Emergency advises motorists to use caution due to hazardous road conditions caused by snow or ice accumulations.
