The Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area Board has announced a proposal to amend its solid waste management plan. The amendment seeks to increase the disposal capacity by up to 35,823,764 cubic yards for both in- and out-of-area solid waste. This equates to approximately 37,722,423 tons of additional capacity beyond what is currently authorized.
This proposal marks the beginning of a 30-day public comment period. During this time, individuals can review the proposed amendment at the Boone County Fiscal Court in Burlington, Kentucky. Comments can be submitted in writing by mail or email until the end of the comment period.
A public hearing is scheduled for February 3, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Boone County Fiscal Courtroom. This event will provide an opportunity for verbal or written comments on the proposed changes. There is no need to reserve speaking time; however, time limits may be applied depending on attendance.
Following the comment period's conclusion, responses will be provided within 15 days. The Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area Board will then decide whether to proceed with amending the current plan based on public feedback. If approved, these changes will be included in future updates as mandated by state law.
