St. Elizabeth Healthcare has announced a significant milestone with the largest donation in its history, marking the four-year anniversary of its comprehensive cancer center. The Yung Family Foundation contributed $10 million to the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center, aiming to enhance access to quality cancer care in Northern Kentucky, where the Yung family has deep roots.
The donation led to renaming the facility as The Yung Family Cancer Center. Since opening, the center has focused on personalized cancer care through precision medicine and genomic health, supported by education screening, prevention efforts, clinical research, and advanced technology.
Bill Yung expressed his motivation for supporting the center: “My mother always pushed me to do things for myself—to work for myself, to spend money to make money.” He hopes this donation will attract top physicians and researchers and improve local access to elite cancer care. His goal is for St. Elizabeth Cancer Center to rank among the top 50 cancer centers nationwide.
Kentucky currently faces high rates of overall cancer incidence and mortality compared to other states. St. Elizabeth aims to treat nearly 500 patients daily using a unique approach that consolidates all patient needs into one location.
Garren Colvin, President and CEO of St. Elizabeth Healthcare, emphasized patient priority: “This partnership fuels the innovation and compassionate care that our entire region depends on.” The goal is ensuring access to meaningful treatments while rewriting regional cancer care's future.
Dr. Doug Flora, Executive Medical Director Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth, acknowledged the importance of philanthropy in advancing cancer treatment: “Their support allows us...to offer hope where there was once none.” He highlighted how private donations have reshaped cancer research landscapes.
