St. Elizabeth Healthcare earns top CMS ratings for two campuses

Garren Colvin President and CEO | St. Elizabeth Healthcare

St. Elizabeth Healthcare's Dearborn and Edgewood campuses have received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This marks the first time St. Elizabeth Dearborn has achieved this distinction, while St. Elizabeth Edgewood earned it for the second year in a row.

The CMS 5-star rating is awarded to hospitals demonstrating excellence in key performance areas: mortality, re-admissions, safety, patient experience, and timely care. In 2024, only five hospitals in Kentucky and three in Greater Cincinnati were given this rating, reflecting its exclusivity as only 13% of hospitals nationwide received such recognition.

James Horn, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for St. Elizabeth, highlighted the significance of consistent high-quality care at Edgewood and noted the first-time achievement at Dearborn as evidence of ongoing improvement efforts across their facilities. "It’s a result of the efforts of many," Horn stated, extending gratitude to medical staff and associates.

The ratings underscore St. Elizabeth's commitment to patient satisfaction through superior clinical outcomes like lower mortality and readmission rates. Angela Roberts, Vice President at St. Elizabeth Dearborn, emphasized that prioritizing care improvements has been key to achieving this honor.

The CMS evaluated hospitals from July 2019 through March 2023 for these ratings. Both campuses reported significantly lower mortality rates compared to national averages.
