St. Elizabeth Healthcare receives cardiac center recertification from The Joint Commission

Bob Hoffer Chairman, Foundation Board | St. Elizabeth Healthcare

St. Elizabeth Healthcare has been awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and recertification of the American Heart Association’s Heart-Check mark for Comprehensive Cardiac Center (CCC). This recognition reflects the healthcare system's commitment to improving patient care continuously.

The recertification process involved a rigorous, unannounced onsite review. A team from The Joint Commission evaluated compliance with certification standards, including program management, supporting self-management, and delivering clinical care.

Ken Grubbs, Executive Vice President of Accreditation and Certification Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at The Joint Commission, stated: “Comprehensive Cardiac Center certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care.” He commended St. Elizabeth for using the certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and strengthen its clinical program.

Joint Commission standards are developed with input from healthcare experts, providers, measurement experts, and patients. CCC Certification helps potential patients identify care teams that provide consistent patient care. This certification places St. Elizabeth among an elite group of hospitals meeting high standards for complex cardiac conditions.

D.P. Suresh, Executive Medical Director of the Florence Wormald Heart & Vascular Institute at St. Elizabeth, expressed pride in receiving the recertification: “This showcases our care teams’ commitment to comprehensive and compassionate care while developing specialty care strategies for our patients.”

Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association, congratulated St. Elizabeth on this achievement: “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for cardiac patients.”
