During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, health care professionals are highlighting the role of nutrition in cancer recovery. At the St. Elizabeth Yung Family Cancer Center in Kentucky, cooking classes are being offered to support patients in managing treatment side effects.

Lisa Mercer, a patient at the center who was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer with metastasis in December 2024, participates in these classes. She and others are learning recipes aimed at alleviating symptoms such as neuropathy, which can result from chemotherapy.

Health care providers at the center say that proper nutrition is an important part of healing for cancer patients. The classes are designed to give patients practical skills and knowledge about foods that may help them during their recovery process.
