Boone County has announced the official trick-or-treat hours for Halloween 2025. Residents in the unincorporated areas of Boone County, as well as those in Florence, Union, and Walton, can expect trick-or-treating to take place on Friday, October 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.

While trick-or-treat is not a county-sponsored event, local authorities have coordinated to set consistent hours across the region. This approach aims to encourage safe participation for children and families. Residents who wish to hand out candy are encouraged to turn on their porch lights during these designated hours.

"This Halloween tradition is enjoyed by many children, families and the young at heart. Homes feature oversized spiderwebs, friendly inflatables and (sometimes) spooky scenes to set the atmosphere. Children plan for months to find and create the perfect costume. Adults enjoy the night together as they chaperone children through neighborhoods," according to the announcement.

To help ensure safety during festivities, officials have shared several tips for both trick-or-treaters and drivers. Costumes should be reflective, fit properly, and be flame resistant. Non-toxic makeup or hats are recommended instead of masks that may limit vision. Children are advised to carry glow sticks or flashlights for better visibility and be reminded about any allergies or treats that are off limits.

Pedestrian safety is also emphasized: "Remind children to look both ways before crossing the street," and cross only at corners or crosswalks.

Drivers are urged to take extra precautions during trick-or-treat hours by driving slowly through neighborhoods with many pedestrians, turning on headlights before dusk, watching carefully for children between parked cars, taking extra time at intersections and stop signs, and avoiding distractions such as mobile phones while driving.
