Burlington, KY - Mary Kay “Kay” Vonderschmidt, aged 66, of Burlington, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Hospice of St. Elizabeth. Born on May 26, 1958, to Gene and Ruth Butcher, Kay was a dedicated member of her community, known for her service as a Paramedic and Emergency Manager spanning over 45 years.

Kay’s academic achievements reflected her passion for public service, highlighted by graduate degrees in Public Administration and Emergency Management, including a Doctorate of Science in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University. Throughout her career, Kay served as a mentor to many, generously sharing her knowledge and wisdom with those she encountered.

She is survived by her children, Drew Vonderschmidt and Kati Vonderschmidt, and her siblings Steve Butcher (Cindy), Laura Davies (Reese), and Rob Butcher (Sharon Kay). Kay is also remembered by her beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication.

In accordance with her wishes, services will not be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Foundation, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at 375 Dixmyth Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45220 or to the Chip Terry Fund to honor Kay’s memory and her commitment to helping others.

Mary Kay “Kay” Vonderschmidt will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to public service, her role as a mentor, and her impact on all whose lives she touched.
