St. Elizabeth Healthcare has announced a delay in the construction of its new hospital campus in Greendale, Indiana. The facility was initially planned to break ground at an undecided date in 2025. The decision to postpone is attributed to several factors.
One primary reason for the delay is the significant increase in construction costs since the project was first considered. Additionally, there has been a shift back to pre-pandemic trends where patients prefer outpatient care over inpatient stays. St. Elizabeth Healthcare wants to ensure that the new facility will meet future healthcare needs effectively.
The organization remains committed to providing high-quality care in Indiana. In 2024, St. Elizabeth Dearborn received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, making it one of only 12 hospitals in Indiana and three in Greater Cincinnati with this recognition. St. Elizabeth Physicians, serving Southeastern Indiana with more than 50 practices across 16 locations, was also honored by the American Medical Group Association with an Acclaim Award for quality care.
Until the new campus is built, St. Elizabeth will continue operations at its Lawrenceburg hospital campus and other facilities including the Cancer Center and Urgent Care in Greendale.
"This decision to postpone construction of our new facility was not made lightly," stated St. Elizabeth Healthcare officials, emphasizing their commitment to adapting projects that meet community needs while maintaining financial responsibility.
